From Mystery Bay Cottages, you can…

Kids Snorkelling in turquoise water
Family in hats on bush walking track
The Milky way view from Billy Beach
  • Walk to Billy’s Beach. We admit to being a bit biased, we think our beach (with private access) is great! It’s very close, extremely quiet, has caves and rock pools to soak in and explore. To get to Billy’s Beach, just walk straight down past Cottage 6 along the fence line, walk through the bottom gate, head straight for 20m (follow the mowed grass) and then turn left down the slope to the beach.
  • Watch the sun rise over Montague Island from Billy’s Beach.
  • Enjoy leisurely bush and beach walks.
  • Swim, snorkel and explore the stunning Mystery Bay. You may be lucky enough to see the whales passing by during migration months. Mystery Bay is about a 10-minute walk. If you are looking for all this and surf 1080 beach is a short drive away.
  • Throw a line in at Loader’s Beach, Corunna Lake, 1080 beach, Mystery Bay rocks and many other fantastic fishing locations within a few minutes.
  • Take the car for a drive and explore the surrounding districts.
  • Enjoy a game of tennis or table tennis.
  • Read a good book or magazine (from our library) in peace and quiet on your veranda or snuggle up in front of the log fire.
  • Feed the parrots on the grass
  • Add to our bird sightings list in this guide.
  • Sit back and enjoy the sun setting over Gulaga at the end of another great day.
  • At night make sure you take a moment to head outside and see the night sky, on clear nights it’s truly incredible.

Narooma and Barranguba, Montague Island

Ten minutes’ drive north from Mystery Bay Cottages and you will arrive at the small beach town of Narooma, where you can get all your supplies. Enjoy the local oysters and exceptional piña coladas at Quarterdeck, which overlooks the turquoise water of Wagonga Inlet. Hire an electric bike to explore the region; the Oyster Farmer’s Daughter is a great lunch stop. Spot seals at Bar Rock Lookout and Australia Rock, or take a 20-minute boat ride to Montague Island to snorkel with them. From here you can head out for whale watching or take an evening tour to get up close to the island’s famous colony of Little Penguins.

Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba

Our nearby heritage villages of Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba (both within 5kms south of Mystery Bay) are located in one of the most picturesque settings imaginable and offer a selection of art and craft shops including wood turning, jewellery and photo studios. There is also the cheese factory, cafes, a beautiful nursery and a classic pub. The little ones will love the Tilba Sweet Shop.

Pick up fresh produce at the local market in the Big Hall on a Saturday morning, then head further into the forest for lunch at Tilba Valley Winery & Ale House.

While you’re in this unique corner of the globe, don’t miss the Eurobodalla Food Trail for the ultimate paddock-to-plate experience, and the Blue Pool at Bermagui. Then there’s Mimosa Wines on the Sapphire Coast.
